A Momentous Revolution Shaping the World!!!
The Neolithic Period
was a transition from an unstable lifestyle to a settled community. It was a
very major revolution also termed as the Agricultural Revolution.
The people began
understanding the way to fulfil and satisfy their needs. This led to a very
impactful growth in the agricultural sector. Hunter-gatherers lessened the
killing of animals and began devoting their time to Agricultural practices.
They invented various sophisticated tools such as scrapers, blades, ploughs,
hammers etc. Mainly, they cultivated wheat, barley and lentils.
Along with farming,
people also started rearing cattle, sheep and goat. They also domesticated
various tame animals. There are evidences of dogs being buried with their
owners in graves at Burzahom.
Around 5000 B.C,
Pottery, Weaving and Transportation of goods became popular activities in which
people could engage and earn a good living. Conch shells, Lapiz Lazuli and
turquoise beads were found around 4000 B.C, as an evidence of these
occupations. People began building steady and comparatively stronger houses
with mud-bricks and thatched straws.
Neolithic people
inculcated many changes in their manner of clothing, food habits, occupation,
shelter and communication.
Firstly, they began
making beautiful pottery items to store their production of grains. They learnt
about the cotton crop and how it was woven into a piece of fabric. Hence, they
started wearing cotton garments instead of animal skin. They procured several
metals beneath the surface of Earth, discovered their characteristics and
started making sturdy tools out of them. These tools were more durable, thus,
they did not immediately wear off after tremendous use.
Everyone did not have
to choose the occupation of farming. Some of them had an aptitude for some
other profession. People would store their respective produce and trade it for
one another when time came. In this way, everybody’s needs would be fulfilled.
This system of exchange of goods was coined as Barter System.
The Neolithic Revolution bought in many great changes. Hunter-gatherers started thinking of various creative ideas which had benefited them in a good way. This change has been very successful and uplifting for the entire world.
We must be inspired by
the way these men and women fought in the hardest of their times and bought in
a pronounced reformation. This lesson of life is what we are forgetting in the
modern world. We are blessed to have so much in life, and are still fretting
about wanting more.
We must look back into
our history and salute these people who had no provisions, but worked hard and never
gave up; bringing this incredible revolution that has shaped the entire world.
