UNITY AND INTEGRITY OF THE SOUTH INDIAN KINGDOMS!!
As suggested by my blog title, I am going to
brief you about the various South Indian kingdoms and the values that I have inherited
by their way of rule.
South India, in the historical and ancestral times,
was a very prosperous and rich land with unity amongst the people. People lived
a satisfied life with all their necessities fulfilled. The kings of South ruled
their lands with sovereignty, truthfulness and justice, so that even the less
fortunate people would be given their respect and status. They ensured that
Equality carries through and everyone is happy and gratified. I found the kings
to be of a calm and unperturbed demeanour and they certainly had a profound
impact on their subjects.
Even at that time, literatures were of huge
significance. A Sangam was held thrice at Madurai, wherein poets and authors
travelled from faraway lands to share their poems, stories and dramas. Even now,
some of their relics are found in South India.
The 2nd South Indian kingdom is
that of the Cholas. Cholas resided to the north-east of Pandyan Kingdom. Two kings: Rajaraja
Chola and Rajendra Chola were the most prominent rulers of this dynasty. They ruled
and fought valiantly for their land and people. Rajaraja Chola was also known
as Gangaikonda as he defeated the Pala king on the banks of river Ganga. They literally
had an intense impact on the way of thinking of their citizens. The land of
Chola Dynasty was very fertile and their production and out-crop of grains was
massive, which enabled the provision of food to even the remotest sectors of
their land.
The 3rd South Indian Kingdom is of the Cheras. Cheras occupied the current region of The God’s Abode, i.e. Kerala and parts of south-west Tamil Nadu. They were popular for their scrumptious delicacies and savouries. Also, they were known for turmeric, a very valuable medicinal herb that possesses many health benefits. The most famous king of this empire was Senguttvana. He expanded his territory by using matrimonial alliances and diplomatic tricks to conquer various lands. He also commanded a strong naval force along with supporting the aspiring poets and writers in his land.
These 3 kingdoms of South were a blend of
integrity, literacy, equality and unison. The Pandyan kingdom was said to be
ruled by a women. After learning about this, I really felt proud to see that
women were also at their utmost superiority. They went through all their
hurdles courageously and marked a place in the hearts of many.
Secondly, the Chola kingdom really made me
connect with our country’s soldiers. How kings at that time worked to their
full potential and shielded their land, our soldiers have done the same. They protect
our nation day and night, sacrifice themselves for the well-being of their
fellow nationalists, stay far away from their families, but still never ask for
repayment. They smile under the harshest of times and celebrate when they can
see us asleep without stress. They have really taught us the way of living
life: not miserably, but joyfully and accepting the truth; because something is
always helpful for us even at the toughest of times.
I would like to conclude on a note that the
real joy of life cannot be attained by acquiring all luxuries and indulgences,
but, by having the comforting hug of our parents and support of our dear ones. Also,
the unison of a team is always better than the division of its individuals. Hence,
we must always remember, ‘Unity in Diversity’ must win through at all times.
